Mitchell Saddleback

Mitchell Saddleback is a Vancouver-based actor, writer, comedian and storyteller from the Samson Cree Nation in Maskwacis, Alberta.  Mitchell’s spoken word and stand-up comedy have been met with enthusiastic acclaim at various venues and events across Vancouver and beyond, including countless stand-up sets at renowned comedy nights such as New Moon Comedy, Havana Moon Comedy, Millennial Line, and most recently, The Lido. Mitchell has also performed at The Drum is Calling Festival, Expressions of Reclamation (Arts Council of New Westminster showcase), From Talking Stick to Microphone, and various other events, from concerts to company parties, have featured his spoken word, stand-up and MC skills. Mitchell has appeared in a wide range of film and theatre roles. These include Cold Pursuit with Liam Neeson and Laura Dern, the New York Film Critics Circle award-winning First Cow, and Pawakan Macbeth (an Indigenous retelling of the Shakespeare classic). Mitchell’s current projects include The Bannocking, a web horror series set to air on CBC Gem, and an innovative new Indigenous sketch comedy show, for which he was awarded the prestigious Indigenous Screen Office Development Grant. Having grown up with the belief that laughter is medicine, Mitchell uses humour for healing, but he also has an innate ability to use it as a learning tool. It is this formula that allows him to create change through a unique combination of outrageously funny comedy and hard-hitting, fundamental education. Mitchell seeks to leave an indelible mark on audiences, leaving them cackling while at the same time challenging them to think differently about politics, Indigenous rights and most of all, Indigenous comedy.
